Chapter 16
Isaac pulled up to a small cafe-looking place called "Le Petit Cafe". He drove into a spot right in front, in the somewhat empty parking lot, save a few scattered cars.
"Is this it?" he asked, looking disappointed.
Becca's face lit up. "Yeah, this is it!" she said beneath a huge smile. Becca loved this place. She went up to Kalamazoo every winter in the beginning of January for the annual "Spring Hill" trip for the Church of God convention with her youth group. She had so many good memories... singing with the guy with the gorgous black and white guitar, skating, first kiss... all the good stuff. She sighed and got out of the car, hoping that she'd get another kiss soon.
"Ike and Tay, I know this is going to sound really dumb, but can you guys pretend to be our boyfriends?" Becca said with a weak grin.
"I wouldn't have a problem with that!" Taylor said, grinning, putting his arm around Becca's waist, "but why?".
Becca moved out of his arm-range and closer to Isaac, who had already chosen Jacqui to be his 'date'. "Well, Maddy is really overprotective of us, and if she knew that we hid in your car, and we didn't even know you, she'd have a heart-attack and call our parents... so I'll be with you, Ike, and Jacqui, you go with Taylor... is that cool with everyone?". Taylor and Ike gave eachother evil glances, but agreed.
Jacqui was getting annoyed that Isaac was going for her. Becca didn't like it one bit either. They both hoped that this would solve the problem of "who gets who", if anyone.
The 2 newly formed, forced couples proceeded to walk into the small coffee shoppe. The first person they saw was a woman, about 30, with short, straight, jet-black hair. The woman who appeared by her name tag to be called "Madeline" ran over to them as soon as they had entered the cafe.
"Becca!" shouted Madeline, giving Becca a huge hug. "Jacqui!" she said, moving on to giving another hug. "It's so great to see you girls! What are you doing here? And who are these quite handsome young men who you're with?" she said, getting a mischevious grin on her face, and nudging Jacqui in the ribs a little too hard.
"Well, this is my boyfriend Isaac," Becca said, giving Isaac a quick kiss on the lips, "and this is Jacqui's boyfriend-"
"Taylor," Jacqui said, cutting Becca off and giving Tay a quick peck.
Both guys looked quite surprised, but content.
"Well, welcome!". Maddy obviously didn't know Hanson since she always listened to Christian music. Becca noticed a man in the back of the restaraunt on stage, tuning the most gorgous guitar she had ever seen.
"Hey Maddy, who's that on stage?" Becca asked, not being able to see too well without her contacts or glasses.
"Well, Becca, I thought if anyone, you would know who that was! He's your favorite singer... c'mon, blonde hair... guitar... average height, skinny..." Maddy said, hinting Becca.
"Oh My Gosh!! That's Steven Curtis Chapman?!" Becca asked, her mouth wide open.
"Good guess... want an introduction?" Maddy questioned.
"Heck yeah!" Becca said, her jaw still dropped that she was going to meet SCC.
"Eh hem!" Jacqui grunted, bringing Becca back to reality that she was ditching Isaac for a much older, married guy.
"Oh yeah... Ike do you want to meet him too?" she asked, not caring for an answer, but dragging Ike along.
"Umm... okay..." Isaac said, pleadingly looking to Taylor for help.
Tay laughed at Isaac and dragged Jacqui to the stage, following his big brother.
Once they reached the stage, Maddy gave out the introductions. "Steven, honey, this is Becca. She is definitley one of your biggest fans, but I'll let her tell you that, if she's not too speechless! Becca, this is Steven-"
"I know who he is!" Becca said, a little too harshly. "Hi, I'm Becca, and, oh wow, I am just so excited to meet you! You are my biggest fan!" she said, not realizing the mistake she had just made.
Steven laughed. "Well Becca, it's great to met ya!" he said. He noticed her eyeing his guitar. "Do you play?" he asked.
"Oh yeah I sure do! I sing all your songs all the time, I just love them!" Becca said, getting a little too excited.
Isaac looked at Becca. Yeah, like she's any good! he thought to himself.
"Care to jam with me?" Steven asked Becca.
"Oh wow!! Yes!! I'd love to!" she said, breathlessly.
Maddy escorted Taylor, Isaac, and Jacqui to a table while Steven helped Becca get amped up on this gorgous guitar she saw in front of her.
"Oh my gosh, you're letting me play that?" she asked her role model.
"Why not?" he asked, handing her the guitar and helping her with the strap adjustment. He smiled at her, and she smiled back. Nice teeth he thought to himself.
Back at the table, Ike was bored as ever. He had tried to initiate some conversation with Jacqui, hopelessly noticing that she was having the time of her life... talking to his brother.
He put his hand under his chin and rested his elbow on the table and sighed, bored out of his mind.
Becca got amped up and was ready to rock. "What song do you want to do?" she asked her role model.
"I should be asking you that question!" he said to her, realizing whatever he said would make her smile the same way.
"How about... hmm... do you know... 'i will be here for you'?" she asked, starting to get a little more confortable with the fact that Steven Curtis Chapman was talking to her.
"Yeah, I kind of wrote that one," he said, rolling his eyes in a good way.
"Oh yeah, I'm sorry!" Becca said, blushing.
Back at the table, Taylor was liking this Jacqui chick a lot. They both agreed that the piano was so much better than the guitar and it was a great instrument. He found out Jacqui wasn't as obsessed as Becca, who spent her spare time writing songs and... fanfics. Taylor hated fanfics. He thought they were so dumb that people would write stories about him. Jacqui seemed really cool to him. She reminded him of someone. He couldn't quite remember her name though...
Becca's voice cut through his thoughts, bringing him back into the real world. "Tommorow morning if you wake up, and the sun does not appear, I, I will be here. If in the dark we lose sight of love, hold my hand, and have no fear, 'cause I, I will be here," she sang wholeheartedly, looking at... Isaac, who seemed mezmorized by her voice.
WOW! She's not that bad! Isaac thought to himself. He was beginning to see inside of her heart, knowing that she really did love him. He liked it, knowing that it was true love, and not just another dumb fan. Thank goodness she was a brunette. He hated blondes.
Becca finished her song, and Isaac stood up and clapped. Jacqui and Taylor did the same. Steven went over to Becca and gave her a huge hug, with a quick smooch on the cheek. Becca's face turned bright red as she said to Steven, "Thank you", returning his hug.. and kiss.
She looked at Isaac, whose face was smiling brightly as he clapped. She left the stage and went over to him. "Wow! Why didn't you tell me you could sing?! And that guitar playing! Wow! Tay let's get Mercury on the phone!" he said, half-joking.
Becca blushed and said, "Thanks", again as Isaac proceeded to hug her. She returned his hug giving Jacqui a confused look. Jacqui gave her a thumbs up, and Becca's face lit up as she hugged her true love. Isaac pulled back and kissed her on the lips. She returned his kiss and added a little tongue. He returned the same guesture. Jacqui felt it was her duty to break them up before this got into something gross.
"Alright lovebirds, let's break it up now, the food's here!" she said, making Becca laugh.
Isaac pulled out Becca's chair for her, and he scooted his very close to her, so that their chairs were touching. Becca smiled to herself, content that for once in her life, everything was going her way.
Jacqui and Taylor seemed to be hitting it off quite nicely as well, talking and laughing together. Out of nowhere, Taylor's beeper sounded, and he checked to see who had called him. His face dropped, and he remembered who Jacqui had reminded him of. Vega.
